One of the reported disturbances in the Gulf area has official become Tropical Cyclone 9. This storm will continue her forward motion and increase her wind speed. She will expected to become Tropical Storm Helene and then Hurricane Helene before making landfall as a Category 3 or higher on Thursday. Her forecasted path is still broad, so as she approaches we will know better where she will land, but even if she doesn’t make landfall in Panama City Beach, winds and rain are still expected in the Panama City Beach and Santa Rosa Beach areas.
TC9 is currently traveling at 7mph with 35mph wind speeds. We will continue to monitor the storms and provide regular updates.
There is very high probability that Panama City Beach and Santa Rosa Beach will experience poor weather and dangerous driving conditions on Thursday and Friday. If your plans have you traveling on those days, we recommend adjusting your plans to leave earlier or arrive later.
