Showers and thunderstorms located over the northwestern Caribbean Sea and portions of Central America that are associated with a broad area of low pressure are beginning to organize. Current conditions may favor the development of a tropical depression or tropical storm in the next 7 days. The system is forecast to move northward across the Gulf of Mexico, but projections are still widespread so we will continue to monitor the storm and it’s projected path.
There are similar disorganized storms in the Northwest Atlantic that we will watch for further development.
Once the actual storms form, we will update our posts and include reported path models.
This chart will help you to correlate the Category ratings to the sustained wind speeds:
Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale
We will continue to monitor the storm as if moves through the gulf. Storm paths can change quickly, however, so we will continue to monitor this storm under Storm Updates on our website.
