The spring Ironman event is fast approaching! On Saturday, May 10, 2025, over 2000 athletes will arrive in Panama City Beach to take on the most challenging race of the spring.History of the Ironman Race
In 1978, a cyclist named John Howard and a pair of triathletes, Judy and Gordon Haller, created the first Ironman triathlon in Hawaii. The original event combined three existing races: the Waikiki Roughwater Swim, the Around-Oahu Bike Race, and the Honolulu Marathon. The creators wanted to challenge athletes to find the fittest swimmers, cyclists, and runners in the ultimate endurance challenge. The first race had only 15 competitors but quickly gained popularity and now brings thousands of athletes worldwide. Their idea was to create a challenge to determine the fittest: swimmers, cyclists, or runners by creating the ultimate endurance test with a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and 26.2-mile marathon run.Ironman in Panama City Beach
Officially known as Ironman Florida, the race was first held in Panama City Beach in 2002. It has become a major highlight in the triathlon community. Over the years, it has drawn athletes from around the world to the beautiful Gulf Coast for the ultimate endurance challenge. The race has earned a reputation for its flat and fast course, which features a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and 26.2-mile marathon run. The Ironman Florida race is a favorite among both seasoned Ironman competitors and first-timers.Spring Ironman Florida
