St. Patrick’s Day in Panama City Beach

Just who is St. Patrick and how did March 17th become the day he is celebrated? Many people just think of it as a day where they have a chance to wear green, while drinking green beer and other green concoctions, and possibly hoping for some Irish ancestry. Some experts say that the day started in America and is very special for the Irish Americans as they take great pride that their heritage is being celebrated.

St. Patrick, who lived during the fifth century, is celebrated on March 17th every year, because that is the day he is thought to have died on March 17, 461. He is the patron saint of Ireland who was brought to the Emerald Isle as a slave at the age of 16, after he was kidnapped from his homeland of Roman Britain. He eventually escaped and returned to his homeland, but he later returned to Ireland.

So, why do we wear green on St. Patrick’s Day? A myth, started in America. has it that green should be worn because it will make you invisible to leprechauns. The Irish flag is green, white, and orange, and the green symbolizes Irish nationalism, so Irish Americans would wear the green to remind them that they were nationalist first and foremost.  By the way. the orange stands for the Orangemen of the north and the white symbolizes peace.

No matter why or how you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, we thought we’d share a few places in Panama City Beach for your celebrations.

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “luck of the Irish”.  Have you ever wondered where it originated from and what it actually means?  It might just surprise you as to what it truly means.

According to Irishcentral.com, it originated during the gold and silver rush years in the 2nd half of the 19th century.  A number of successful miners were of Irish and Irish American decent, so over time the association of the Irish with mining fortunes led to the expression “luck of the Irish.” Other ideas include the idea that the phrase has a much older history. The Irish have a long tradition of storytelling, and many of their tales are filled with references to luck and fortune.
