Hurricane Milton has increased speed significantly overnight and intensifies as it moves across the gulf to the Florida peninsula. Forward motion is 8mph but wind speeds were reported at over 50mph as of 8:30am CST, which is just 7 mph shy of a Category 5 storm. This storm is expected to make landfall as a Category 5 on Wednesday afternoon.
While the Panama City Beach area and the Santa Rosa Beach area are not in the expected path, we DO anticipate some heavy winds and rain as it passes by. The winds will begin as early as Tuesday and will continue as the storm passes through. This may also trigger some tornados and riptides. Please monitor all flags and weather warnings to be safe during this storm.
As always we will continue to monitor this storm and send updates as expectations change.
