Panama City Beach has plenty to do during the holiday season, with Thanksgiving feasts and Christmas displays galore. But New Year’s is not to be forgotten. With everything from fireworks on the pier to a beach ball drop, you can ring in the new year Florida-style in Pier Park.
Live Music
Pier Park is definitely the place to be on New Year’s Eve. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., you’ll be able to listen to several different live bands in Pier Park while enjoying an evening meal, doing some post-Christmas shopping, or enjoying the local scenery. This year the event features The Will Thompson band at 8:20pm and The Life Atlantic beginning at 10pm.
Kids’ Beach Ball Drop
Pier Park caters to families and adults for the New Year celebration. For youngsters that aren’t ready to stay up until midnight to ring in the new year, Pier Park has a kids’ celebration at 8 p.m. This is when 10,000 beach balls are released from nets hanging above the streets and fall down as a “beach ball drop.”
Adult Ball Drop
The traditional midnight celebration for the new year is the Beach Ball Drop at midnight. The large “beach ball” in Pier Park will lower at midnight, similar to the famous ball drop in New York City. Fireworks begin during the final one minute countdown and then start out over the water at midnight.
Fireworks Display
Once the beach ball drop is over, you can head to the front end of Pier Park (or up to the condo, if you’re staying at Calypso!) and enjoy a fireworks display off the Russell-Fields Pier.
